Types of Superconducting Magnets

Superconducting magnets are made in a great variety of configurations and sizes to accommodate the requirements of the most imaginative scientist or engineer. Some of the more frequently requested types of magnets and the experiments in which they are used are illustrated and discussed in the following sections. Omitted from these discussions are magnets with extended homogeneous regions, magnets with mirror coils, magnets for gyrotrons, and other special purpose magnets that are custom designed to the customer’s specifications. Also, see the AMI Picturebook section for some examples of custom designs. At AMI, we specialize in designing and manufacturing custom magnet systems.
