Nuclear Demagnetization Magnets

Magnets for Nuclear Demagnetization are designed for use with specific He3-He4 dilution refrigerators and customer-supplied demagnetization specimens and thermal switches (Type E1). The main magnet is designed to provide a high field region for demagnetizing the specimen after it has been precooled by the dilution refrigerator. The experimental region, the mixing chamber and the thermal switch are shielded from the field of the main magnet by a bucking coil and various trim coils. All coil sections are connected in series and only two leads are used. A persistent switch is supplied across the terminals of the magnet assembly. Where the ultimate low temperatures are required, systems of this type can be cascaded to provide two successive stages of demagnetization (Type E2).

AMI designs nuclear demagnetization magnets that meet the individual requirements of each customer and equipment constraints. The requirements typically specified by the customer are listed in the table below. Fill in the appropriate values and then FAX or mail to AMI. This will provide a basis for discussing your requirements, and will assist us in developing a design to meet your needs.

Maximum field at the center of the high field coil: ________ Tesla
High field coil homogeneity: ±________ % in 1 cm DSV
High field clear bore diameter (A): ________ inches
Reduced field region clear bore diameter (B): ________ inches
Reduced field region starting position (G) above the high field coil center : ________ inches
Maximum magnetic field on axis in reduced field region (H): ________ gauss

To arrive at an optimal design, AMI should be free to establish the remainder of the dimensions. However, AMI can design a magnet to meet practical constraints and experimental requirements. In the event there are additional constraints, please make the appropriate exceptions.
