Racetrack Dipole
and Quadropole Magnets

With the unusual geometry of these coils the precision winding placement
required to obtain high homogeneity can be very difficult. These problems have
been addressed by AMI and precision wound coils can be provided using single
wire windings instead of Rutherford cables which are commonly used but provide
poor homogeneity. A cross section of one such precision winding job for an Ioffe
Trap system is shown.
